Paintings, Drawings, & Installation
2002 to Present
Starting in 2002, I began making aggregates of tiny portraits with colored pencils on ShrinkyDink. Everywhere I went, I collected images of people who I met and would then render them and add them to the group. The portraits are a meditation on how we are all connected. How each person we encounter then becomes part of ourselves. We are the sum total of all of our relationships. At the time I began this work, my father was ill with terminal cancer. I was thinking a lot about impermanence and the ways in which we live on through each other. Each tiny drawing is like a relic, hearkening back to my Catholic upbringing.
At different times during the last 20+ years, I have revisited this work and added to the collection. I now create portrait commissions which can be viewed at https://petitraits.com/
