Sacred Geometry
Paintings & Drawings
2019 to Present
Continuing the investigation of the cell as an inspiration of creative growth,, this work explores the sacred geometric form of the flower of life which represents cellular mitosis. The paintings live in the tension between geometric order and organic flow.
The Platonic Solids were discovered by Plato and are defined as any of the five geometric solids whose faces are all identical, regular polygons meeting at the same three-dimensional angles. In Sacred Geometry they are considered to be the building blocks of nature. The cube reflects earth, octahedron is air, tetrahedron is fire, icosahedron is water, and dodecahedron is representative of universe or spirit. Our brains unconsciously relate to this powerful universal language of mathematical ratios, harmonics, and divine proportion.
In simply starting each of these paintings with a ruler, compass, and pencil, I witnessed the elegance and balance of this geometry first-hand. I then used color symbolically to represent each of the corresponding elements.
